Muhammad Yunus: Ideas for Social Business Entrepreneurs

For those who may not have visited his site yet and read Yunus' description of how social business entrepreneurs are key to cutting poverty, here is the location: Muhammad Yunus.

Take a look at his thoughts on capitalism and social entrepreneurs at the above link. And consider the outline of how we may engage poverty wherever we do business. You'll come to see how he was able to coin the expression 'conscious capitalism'. And it may give you insight into his method of world change.

Personally, I find his ideas 'in a good direction'. But I'm convinced it will take actions way beyond the business sector to forever reduce and eliminate poverty. Yes, actions more of a spiritual nature.

What are your thoughts?

Tru Review: What Do You Think? --Thinktank Thread

The below 'quoted' comments are from a Thinktank thread located here. Its titled, What do you think?, referencing the ad sponsors featured on the site (just look to your far right). And everyone reading this is strongly encouraged to take a moment to read them there in their original context flow.

After seeing the expressions shared, I found some of them interesting to ponder and review. In particular, Darshan and ~C4Chaos had some nice thoughts. As did everyone. So I've decided to add a few my own reflections on just their comments for now. They're being addressed in no particular order.

[Darshan's thoughts]
"And no disrespect to the Integral folks, but I would hate it to appear to be that Zaadz was somehow a function of the Wilberites and Integralists, or for that matter, any large cohesive group that found a home here.

Again, it isn't about anything or anyone in particular, I guess it would be nice to see Zaadz, The Republic be a truly democratic representation of a “nation” we say we'd like to be."

From my own observation, I can see where and how Darshan draws his point. I do see a tightly knit relationship between integralists and Zaadz. However, to say Zaadz is a "function of the Wilberites and Integralists" appears debatable. I would say Zaadz is Wilberites and Integralists greatest cheerleader, rooting for the home teams. But Zaadz has operated independently from the beginning, being free of functioning solely for integralists partiality.

There does seem to, clearly, be a preference toward reflecting Integral Institute (with a strong buddhist twist) and the like. Which isn't a biggie, for me at least. After all, on the homepage its whole take on spirituality is in line with Integralism anyway.

[Darshan's thoughts]
"I guess what this boils down to is when you start having money spent to influence people's opinion, it starts coloring the opinion people have of you and your product, and your ability to share that opinion. I'm certainly not saying this to poo-poo your idea, Martha, I'm speaking to things I have already seen and the lessons that can be learned from history."

I share those lessons that Darshan's speaks about. The concern is valid and should be
explored when cause for concern is raised. Of course we may remember the little boy who cried "wolf" (its a classic children's story). Still, being practical, this business of 'changing the world' would have to involve actual change. And all change is a result of some sort of influence.

So perhaps scrutinizing the amount, nature and motive of any influence is valid. And the matter of spending money to generate influence/change has its success. The balance would be the level of individuality and impartiality exercised by the people to be influenced.

[~C4Chaos' thoughts]
"what's wrong with influencing people if your purpose and message is to promote a more conscious way of doing things? what's wrong with spending money on influencing people if this is done with utmost care and compassion? what's wrong with promoting your product or services if your intention is to make people's lives better?"

These are good questions, and they insinuate a positive outlook. To me, the questioning should really be centered on not so much "what", but how. And I only saw mere concerns about influencing via money. I didn't see anywhere about it being explicitly "wrong". Which
was very encouraging.

Even here, there's no mention of influencing being dead wrong. There does seem to be an honest heads-up on freedom of expression at Zaadz. For he did write: "your ability to share that opinion". In regard to expressing ones opinion on a product that a company may spend
large amounts of cash to buy influence on, it may present a challenge. But is it really debilitating?

[~C4Chaos' thoughts]
"what i'm trying to say is: we have to reset our thinking and ditch the idea that once people start spending money then their integrity is compromised. there maybe some truth to this, but i think this is an unfair way of treating people who do business across the board. i think a more constructive attitude towards this is:

“gee, they're spending money to hear from us, they care on what we think, they are doing their best to be transparent, they are opening up the channels of communication, maybe i'll return the favor and take this opportunity to give them a piece of my constructive criticism so they can improve their product/service even more.” "

Personally, I'd never ditch the exercises of mind or discernment. Doing that would support
Darshan's earlier red flag about "your ability to share that opinion" on companies,
practices, products and services. Plus, people shouldn't need a company to open any channels of communication. They are already open, if they're wanting to do business.

As long as there are options, a person's choice itself is enough communication to send a
clear message. No company, whatever they offer, whatever the integrity, turns a deaf ear to profit loss and shameful mass media.

But the majority here likely exercise 'the benefit of the doubt', and work in harmony with ~C4Chaos' suggestion to be fair with constructive criticism. That's what I've found in the original thread. Although, I don't find it useful to feel pressured to kiss up on every occasion either. Wouldn't that be unfair?

Let us remember, the whole world is at stake. So such discussions should behoove us all.

Much thanks to the above participants for bringing us much insight from different angles.

Just read a report talking about a conference on human development being held in the African country of Morocco. Its been put together by the "United Nations Development Programme and the Moroccan government".

Human development is always good news wherever and however as long as it brings about beneficial changes to local populations and reinforces hopes. I mean, many here at Zaadz are investing time to develop themselves and experience conscious growth (or evo).

Morocco, like many nearby neighborhoods all over the planet, finds itself seeking more literacy, awareness, running water, housing, income, and reduction of poverty. Aren't we all (who truly are aware) seeking the same, for our neighbors and ourselves?

"The conference will consider poverty reduction, good governance, gender equality and illegal immigration", to quote the report.

Read the further details here via: BBC News| Africa| Morocco

Periodically, I will feature controversial and/or bizarre questions and/or statements followed by questions. Yes, I just said that. :)

Of course, not all will view or address them the same. And some may not be so controversial, just as some may not be so bizarre (per person). But it should be a bit interesting nontheless.

First up:

How would you describe your take on the expression "beyond religion"? What comes to mind?

Do you even acknowledge such a thing as possible? Explain.

I'd eat potted meat and drink two day old goat blood while attempting to live inside a blackhole. But, then again, some fears are perfect. ;-)

Aren't they?

But seriously, some fears are really perfect in what they prevent from happening. I mean, who wouldn't want their children to be fearful of crossing a busy street? Such fear is more like a respect for life.

In a practical manner, I'm doing that which I wasn't doing before. And its a nice feeling moving on my sharing, writing, awareness, spirituality and agape. Plus, exploring my humorous depth and enjoying immense laughter is freeing.

Once upon a time, hardly would I embrace these things. Its much different now. Much different. Its being true (hence trunami).

It was after midnight.

Windows open, refreshing cool breezes blowing through.

When suddenly, looking downward, there is a little spider doing its work on a black beetle.

The beetle was stalled in the corner of the living room near the front door.

Although much larger in size than the spider, the beetle found itself well snagged in the invisible webbing being spun by the spider as it went round 'n round --ignoring the beetle's struggle.

Diligently, the little spider kept at it despite the level of uncertainty it was obviously facing.

With no effort could both be tossed outside by the vehical of torn tissue.

Or the beetle could be freed from its apparent sacrificial provision assignment.

But the spider, inside here, wasn't going to find suitable replacement unless it dined on a 1 and 1000 chance gnat that may find itself so wayward.

Clearly the little spider's appetite was dire, challenging a prey more than 20 times its size covered with a tough exoskeleton.

The beetle kept tugging and scuffing hopelessly, while the spider rapidly spun cirlces.

An urge subsided, to intervene, and peace took over knowing God was also curious to watch.

And they were left there; both fervently in the heat of nature.

The next morning, a little after 7, walking to the front, flipped the light on and that corner was empty of the commotion.

The spider's labor paid off, according to nature's indication.

Went into the kitchen with a sense of satisfaction that nature's law had judged.

Prior to eating the warm dish prepared, mosying along the hallway aside the kitchen was that black beetle.

You should've seen the smile on this face.

Chuckling heavily, breakfast was even more enjoyable that day.

Perhaps you've heard of the "New 7 Wonders of the World" vote that's in play. In place of a panel of scientific experts, the global community is being sought after to decide what goes down
in history as the next 7 wonders of the world.

In case you haven't been informed yet, the website to visit is New7wonders.com.

There you're given the opportunity to help shape the future of today's history. You're also given a couple choices of how you wish to vote.

Try not to fall prey to the over imposed favoritism and blatant advantage given to the Statue of Liberty. Although it truly stands for a novel idea, in the greater scheme of things its wonder is of no greater shine to many other marvels. But Frederic Auguste Bartholdi's skill is practically angelic, nonetheless.

I've already cast my votes. The Great Wall of China wasn't one of them. Why? Mainly because, although the wall took an unparalled amount of work, it didn't take nearly as much work for the mongols to compromise the wall and kick butt on the inner side after all that effort put into it. China still receives love from me though.

However, I will say that Phoenix's sister city, Timbuktu, was given a shot for it's miraculous wealth of its time (which started as a simple well dug by a woman named Buktu). The famous city is in the myth ranks of Shangri-La, Xanadu, and Atlantis. Hope she's a winner.

Whataya waiting for? Get your vote on!

Con-Tru-versy: Presence of Variables

Yes, when it comes to our actions there is an equalizing and there is an end. But how it happens is out of the jurisdiction of commercial concepts such as “Law of Attraction”.

Being human is a very accountable life. True, what we decide to do has a major impact on what happens to us. Still, we see people who have wronged no one nor even desire to wrong anyone. And yet, they become mistreated and suffer at the hands of oppressors. History is littered with such accounts.

At Acts 7:59, 60 we notice a famous event recorded where Stephen is stoned by his opposers. Was Stephen dwelling on negative energy thereby prompting the murderous behavior of the scribes?

On the contrary, he recited truthful deeds which angered the scribes present. They then started stoning him while at the same time he prayed for forgiveness on their behalf. Here we see positive action and thinking received unfriendly results from Stephen's contemporaries. Hate attracting love? And the total opposite has happened, and been recorded too.

Even I, personally, pray and have positive thoughts toward people who wish to be disruptive towards others. They aren't attracting negative reaction everytime. Living near a college affords me the opportunity to live among various youthful attitudes and lifestyles. And its everyday to witness how the behavior experienced isn't always attracting 'like' results, as if a law. Surely it isn't an invasion of anomalies, is it?

Yes such things are constantly seen taking place now. From the vast accounts of this presence of variables with human blessings and sufferings, we realize attraction is null as law.

Some spiritual practices teach that doing good isn't dependent on good returning. Jesus himself taught that, despite the love given, many would not receive him well and would even hate him and others like him (Matt 24:9). Love attracting hate? Obviously, humans are subject to experiencing opposite results from their intentions and actions.

Prime example is here at Zaadz. In the early days, due to what didn't fit in the TOS and negative reactions, Brian (CEO) himself banned many from remaning with Zaadz. And even todate, periodically, the same actions are taken to prevent a negative vibe from being present. That is, negative according to Brian and company.

So how would it look according to LoA if we held them up to that light? What kind of mental dwelling was/is operational?

I mean, without much effort, a quick search on the net pulls up some interesting feelings and reviews attracted by Zaadz. But, personally, I could never attribute such things to the thinking of the creators of the site dwelling on ______. Are we really going to attribute some like attracts like law at work?

The same goes for opponents of The Secret, Steve Pavlina, America, the pandit Ken Wilber, Esther Hicks and others. They ALL have some serious variations of passions, opinions and insights attracted by their thinking all over the earth. T'would seem if LoA is the lens used, and like is attracting like, the implications are quite enormous and not completely favorable.

Sounds like one 'huge glitch' in the system if we're persuaded toward this LoA theory. The same goes for Subjective reality theory. Freedom of thought is truly a nice perk as humans. I see more inventive theories coming to bear as we go on. And so be it. Its just good observing the truth and witnessing its unchangableness march forward, despite pop-theories.

"You heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.' However, I say to you: Do not resist him that is wicked; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other also to him." ---Jesus Christ, 30 A.D.

The premise that "like attracts like" sounds attractive enough, primarily to those who need such concepts to perceive growth and prosperity. But more likely, as many others here at Zaadz have concluded, it feeds into the narcissistic pool. (See Julian's blog)

Yet, is it really a law when opposites are seen attracting just as much if not more? Even magnets attract opposite poles, which creates a magnetic field. Poverty is attracted to riches. Water is attracted to heat. There are various examples to make the case. And, frankly, most people in support of "The Secret" seem to utterly ignore such vast anomalies.

How many of us know of opposites attracting? There have even been songs on the subject observing how opposites attract. Especially in relationships.

Its my hope many will remain awake to the obvious thats hidden. Things being in plain sight
that get taken for granted. Even most scientists withold intrigue with this LoA claim. Rightly so. Besides, there is much to be exploited by the LoA. And it could a very dangerous reality in some minds. LoA itself doesn't mean everyone will be in sync on how to use the concept.

But its a relief that despite the bandwagon being formed with this concept of "Law of Attraction" that the majority are yet reserving acceptance. Surely they, too, notice the peculiarity of evidence present on the variations of attraction. Such variations that like attracts like is nullified.

However if it was so, there being a LoA, then where does justice fit in? It doesn't. People who experience discomfort or tribulation brought it upon themselves and therefore are being served as they have desired within. You know, like attracting like.

So (for those who believe in such a law) justice isn't even an applicable idea or truth. You bring upon yourself all that happens to you. Which, again, would solicit the reality that for whatever reason Gandhi brought his murder upon himself. Likewise, Buddha actually poisoned himself, by attacting his demise. And even Jesus somehow, out of all the good and healing he brought to people, attracted an ill fated experience by being tortured to death. And this is just the tip of the great ice berg of paradoxes in the spiritual realm.

So deep inside, all of these so called "teachers" where really dwelling on negative energy? Really? Law of Attraction, like attracting like?

And its funny how no one is eager to address these BIG potholes in the so called LoA. Where is the acknowledgement of such things?

Personally, justice has its presence experienced and injustice has its experience present. It really comes across insensative when such rhetoric as The Secret is convenient for privileged people. But sorely inconvenient for the unprivileged. 'The Secret' doesn't do any justice to life's mysteries nor histories.

And if I'm noticing someone being harmed in public, the LoA isn't going to guide my reaction. Especially since it would have me believe the person is attracting their
own harm. Rather, I'll know how humans are capable of being accountable for their own actions and chose to assist my fellow earthling as appropriate.

Spirituality in large (not total) portion, less we forget, is suppose to be about living without attactment to things. Especially material things. And how "The Secret" focuses on material gain is a marvel. Is it not?

Surely Jesus is grinning on this one.

Con-Tru-versy: Is Attraction Really a Law?

Yes, lets think about this for a moment.

Attraction, being law? Is it even provable?

Is the Law of Attraction really a calculable law like that of -say- Law of Physics?

If it is to be touted as a law and used for calculations it should be put to rigorous scrutiny before adopted as being "so". Just like theories are discussed and observed whether or not they're provable and, therefore, reliable for life dependence.

Under the umbrella of "entertaining", lets address this premise of "Law of Attraction" being law. Why should we even invest the energy? You may ask me. Good question. And the simple yet powerful answer is this: justice.

Justice? We may think to ourselves. What does any of this have to do with justice?

Shortly, we'll be exploring that in later blog posts. Which is my ultimate reason for such focus on the notion of "The Secret".

Firstly, lets review definitions for "Law of Attraction".

Wikipedia says:

[quote]"The Law of Attraction is an idea that is widespread in New Age and New Thought philosophy. It posits to never dwell on the negative, as the metaphysical principle of life is embodied in a "law of attraction": "you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny." [1]
Dick Sutphen says: the Law of Attraction states, in a nutshell, that like attracts like."[end quote]

And Steve Pavlina says: "The Law of Attraction simply says that you attract
into your life whatever you think about. Your dominant thoughts will find a way to manifest."

'Our thoughts determine our destiny' is a powerful statement with serious implications, true. However, should we be settled on the assertion that they alone are at work? Nothing else molds our course in life? Nothing else effects our reality?"

Sure, I have no doubt our thoughts can exercise a measure of influence over how we end up and experience life. Like, despite horrible conditions we can chose to hold our dignity no matter what. But to base all one's hopes and dreams on pure thought (process of though) is a bit of a stretch, to be sure.

How so? Actually we all interact with enormous proof that "like attracks like" is not law. And challenge us all to see it for ourselves. Hence, lets set aside emotion and implore reason and conscious observation along with our personal objectivity.

For, the power of observation is the most potent tool in science. By observation we see people like Buddha, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Jesus, African Slaves, Princess Diana, Husbands, Wives, Mothers, Fathers, Daughters, Sons, Elderly, Infants, Embryos, Animal Prey, Rape Victims, Disease Carriers, Refugees, Evacuees, etc., etc., experience troublesome events, respectively.

Are we prepared to jump on the theorized notion that each troublesome event was the cause of their dwelling on negative thoughts? Especially when we are living witnesses of their positive actions and motivations? Are we unquestionably reasoning "like attracts like"?

So if Attraction would be a law, according to it Buddha himself must have been dwelling on negativity prior to his demise of being poisoned. Likewise Gandhi's murder was brought upon himself, having negative tendencies of mind. And Princess Di actually did herself in. I mean, really, is this "like attracts like" here?

Surely many of us know people or a person who were of the most positive spirits we've encountered and, yet, that had tragedy or troublesome times afflict them. To imagine a quantum physics equation suggests by their dwelling on negativity it was their own doing is......inhuman.

Because in human society many factors of uncontrollable variables fall on time and occurance randomly. Although there are a few things that show predictability, a vast amount goes unbeknownst to any of us. For which scientist claim there is so much we still don't know. Hence, science goes on theorizing and discovering indefinitely.

Dare I intimate the idea that children who become aborted were dwelling on negative thoughts, therefore sealing their demise. Or that starving people nearby or merely a distance away actually starve themselves.

There must be a balance reached when determining how our own actions may play a role in what happens to us. To say our thinking is the total reason absolves other perpetrators of
reasonable accountability.

Yet, how is justice/injustice figured in? Stay tuned for my next post. Plus, after reading much on Steve Pavlina's website, I'll start another series of entries addressing Subjective Reality.

After seeing an episode of Oprah, and visiting the website in addition to reading comments and
blog entries on the subject. "The Secret", as its called, is up for a visit from my fire.

The website claims: "The Great Secret of the universe. It has been passed throughout the ages, traveling through centuries... to reach you and humankind.

This is The Secret to everything - the secret to unlimited joy, health, money, relationships, love, youth: everything you have ever wanted.

In this astonishing program are ALL the resources you will ever need to understand and live The Secret. For the first time in history, the world's leading scientists, authors, and philosophers will reveal The Secret that utterly transformed the lives of every person who ever knew it... Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein.

Now YOU will know The Secret. And it could change your life forever."

Many of you have already drawn attention to the claim: "For the first time in history", and dispelled that by saying it has not been a secret. And therefore, the Movie is not showing something new for the first time. Thats serious enough, right there.

Yet I'd like to address the premise of The Secret from another perspective, which is on the very grounds of its nature. The Law of Attraction.

Yes, allow me to refer to this as the Con-Tru-versy series. Basically, I'll be posting several
entries on the subject. Will they be objective? That's for your opinion. There is no shame in sharing the fact that I find no necessity in trusting in Law of Attraction. Yet, I'll seriously
<strike>humor</strike> engage it.

This is just an announcement of the coming Con-Tru-versy. Shortly I'll be posting in random intervals my eager flames of scrutiny. Oh what fun it will be.

But for now, let me here from you. How do you feel about the Law of Attraction?

Being strongly connected to earth, its environment, and the great animal life cohabitating here with humans, I find it comforting to give attention to various creatures and their experience.

My own spiritual depth is continually enhanced and enriched by bonding through observation and interaction with such fellow beings sharing this huge blue marble. A marble often referred to as "Earth".

By engaging the variables that exist, whatever their content, lifestyle and practice, one engages the testament to the origin and intent belonging to life. Which is why I'm constantly drawn to the story and voice of wildlife. Its musical performance tantalizing my mind. Pulling me in to the threaded harmony leading to its creator.

And wildlife is just that: life, wild, free, loose, truth, spirited in such a way that opinions stand null though we view the "process of living" at its purest. A process challenging self, and selflessly favoring the life line (per kind). Why not imitate that?

Like the dead serious, curious and often playful nature of the wildlife ---some of us find we could care less about peer popularity, isms, complexes, various politics and senseless fears. Because knowing the purpose of the life line, that takes precedence over any other thing however attaching and self pleasurable it may be.

With wildlife, identity is no question. Its a process of its origin. Its being. Raw. Law.

Am that, too.

If you talk to wolves these days they'll tell you quick: "Its hard out here on a carnivore. We got rights to eat, too man. But too many of us are being put down, for being who we are in this world. Please, don't hate on a wolf."

I even met a wolf once that quipped: "I'm really a Llama trapped in wolves' clothing. I'm open to grazing on the land. B...but this wolf clothing isn't hearing it. Help me get free!" Exclaimed the perceived wolf.

Heh of course, I'm cautious of the sincerity implied. Obviously it wasn't too familiar with human relations. Poor fella seem desperate. After all, I'm an ex-carnivore/herbivore still recovering and can identify.

A friend of mine here at Zaadz recently reminded me of the challenges many wolves are facing in Canada. It seems some are being shot dead on site. And it turns out greater trends are happening in the US. (see articles further down)

There are petitions on the net people can sign to stand up for and protect these creatures from open season shootings and poisoning. Both for Canada and the US. I even stumbled across a posting for a wolf petition at VeganFitness.com. Yeah, that's like finding an anti-abortion petition at a pro-choice website. But hey, how cool? Although, as some of you may have expected, there were no replies of support. Hmmm.

These petitions may help in the short-term or for unknown durations. Still, I'd like to believe its an educational situation on both sides, wolf and man. Perhaps with creativity, a few
ideas can be explored to better serve the wolves and humans involved. I'm hopeful.

Yes wolves deserve to be as they are, and eat. Also too, many people in rural areas raise livestock (not that its the best business, but...) for thier livelihood. So there is room for dialog between activists and livestock owners to reach a balance.

Here are a few articles on the topic below:
Wolves face losing US protection
Kill wolves to help elk?
Record number of wolves killed, 2006

And if we really want to do something unique, we're invited to "adopt a wolf". And there are other wildlife up for adoption, here. For more listings, "wildlife adoption" and "wolf adoption" using your search engine may help.

Owwooooooooo!

Just read an insightful report about the plight of polar bears right now, over at CaitsRaven's blog.

Something that tickled me was "the Bush Administration is beginning the review process to decide whether to protect the polar bear".

I'm a bit puzzled about that approach to the issue. Is it really a situation to "decide whether to protect" the polar bear? It would seem much more positive to know one will protect the polar bear and merely decide on the best method how.

The whole approach seems steeped with whether or not any political leverage can be gained from it. And if not, then likely the Bush Administration won't have an interest. If that would be the case, its a clear indication of a lack of geniune sincerity toward caring for the environment and species occupying it.

To do more ourselves lets join Caitlin with supporting measures to protect these severly declining friends of nature. Go here: Stop Globa Warming at Caitlin's blog for more info.

OK, I've Been Tagged

Thanks to Bobbi I've been tagged. And here's my stab at this:

FIVE THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME

1. For the past 10 years or more, watching competitive sports no longer interest me whatsoever. ;-) And when I play sports, I do not compete. I simply have fun (no winning or losing).

2. I had a dream once, around the age of 7, that the days didn't end. And that I and others present (in my dream) were living forever. It shocked and scared me profoundly since it felt like falling. I woke up nervous and wet with sweat.

3. During my late teens I turned down a singing group career that was about to be produced by recording artist Keith Sweat. And again by Babyface. My voice has changed drastically since then. ;-) Likely, if I had cooperated, the group name would have been "Showcase".

4. I love to play, create, sing and dance, profusely. And find extreme enjoyment interacting with nature. It is all full of power.

5. Deep meditation, for me, is more chemcially and emotionally stimulating than sex. Love it!

I'm tagging:
I'm adding one more since CaitsRaven was already tagged
+1 Jasmin
CaitsRaven
Shyloh
KaseyCox
Jameela
Kiakra
