Hello - what type of bird is this? An owl or an eagle of a sort?

Ah, that is a Harpy Eagle! A beautiful bird that lives in Central and South America. Sadly, these magical creatures are endangered due to the destruction of the rainforest in which they live.

It's so other worldly.
Thank you for bringing the species to my attention.  My heart is heavy with the knowledge of diminishing species.

If it's of any interest to you, I volunteer here at the fondo peregrino in Panama, where there is a Harpy in Residence, named Luigi. He's a great bird! They have a lovely collection of feathers that have been shed over the years. I love to just be there and feel, smell, see everything Harpy. Great to see another eagle-lover
